The Garrett Galloway Memorial Scholarship 2019

This scholarship is meant to honor the life of Garrett Galloway and to continue his legacy of clinical excellence, generosity and volunteer service. “Serving others comes with sacrifice and blessings” was a life statement for Garrett, the definition of a servant leader.

The first scholarship is being established and will be awarded to the selected applicant at the Carolina Sleep Society Spring Conference in May 2019.

About Garrett: Garrett was Director of Strategic Development at Med Emporium.  He was previously employed by Sleep Med Inc., Special Care Medical, Portsbridge Hospice and Lexington Medical Center.  Garrett was a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP).  He was one of the founding members of Carolina Sleep Society (CSS) and was a member of the SCLLR Board.  Garrett served on School Improvement Councils for Northside Middle School and Brookland-Cayce High School.  He was on the Bond Referendum Task Force for Lexington School District 2 and served on countless other community boards.  Garrett loved his community and his church.  In years past he served in various capacities at The Harvest in Lexington, SC, including being head usher for several years.  Garrett loved dirt track racing, hunting, fishing, camping, bourbon, riding his GS motorcycle, Gamecock football, country music and traveling with family and friends.  Another one of Garrett’s great passions was Pineview Dixie Youth Baseball, where he served for 10 years in many roles from coach to becoming president of the league. Anyone that knew him would know that Garrett’s greatest loves were his Lord, his wife, his three precious children, his family and, without a doubt, his friends and his NBFFs.  He had a smile that was contagious, and his integrity was like none other.  Garrett will be greatly missed by many.

The Garrett Galloway Memorial Scholarship will be an annual, merit based competition that focuses on rewarding ambitious, driven, goal-oriented individuals with a background of consistent civic involvement or community service and who are actively or will be enrolled in a Sleep Technology Program or Respiratory Care Program. This is a one-time award of $500. Financial need is considered, however, all interested students are encouraged to apply. Assisting others in making their dream of attending a college or university a reality is the main goal of the Carolina Sleep Society board.  Finalists will be chosen with a one-time award recipient selected each year.

The Garrett Galloway Memorial Scholarship is funded through the Carolina Sleep Society and also individual donations. The Board, in making this scholarship available, does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, gender, sexual orientation, handicap or national/ethnic origin.
